Setting up places for sponsored runners

For well-known events such as the London Marathon that are already set up on the Virgin Money Giving site, you can add the event to the list of Whisper’s events on the site, and then you can send participants a “deep link” that will let them quickly create a page that links to Whisper’s page and to the event itself.

The process is described here. Whisper’s charity ID on Virgin Money Giving is 1002676 so the deep link will look something like this: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/fundraiserEventsDeepLink.action?charityId=1002676&eventId=20797 - you will need to replace 20797 with the ID of the event that you want to link to.

For events where Whisper has paid a fee for the place (for example most charity places in marathons and half marathons) participants will need to be told to answer “Yes” to the question “Has your charity contributed to the cost of your event?”. This is to ensure that the Gift Aid settings are set correctly, because if Whisper has paid a fee then donations from the participant and from their immediate family are not eligible for Gift Aid. If the participant has paid their own entrance fee (for example they have their own ballot place in the event) then this does not apply.
