Whisper Wiki

SMS Fundraising

Whisper is currently registered with donr.com for donations by SMS. In the past, Whisper has used two UK-based SMS fundraising platforms: JustTextGiving by JustGiving (this service ended in March 2019) and Vir2 (not currently used); for reference, details of those services can be found here.

While Whisper was an operator of premium-rate SMS services through Vir2, Whisper was registered with the industry regulator Phone-paid Services Authority but the registration has lapsed.

Mobile donation regulations restrict regular giving to a maximum of £10 per month.

Phone-paid Services Authority

Section titled “Phone-paid Services Authority”

Whisper was until March 2018 registered with Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA), the UK regulator for premium rate phone services, successor organisation to PhonepayPlus. Whisper’s registration number was ORG828-70093-95901. Registration is free for charities but we had to renew it annually; renewal involved some brief form-filling on their website.

If we decide to use a text donation service again, we should contact the PPSA to reactivate our account.
